The world is moving towards increased personalization and interaction in all senses. Education should follow this example. However, doing this in education, especially in India, is not easy.
Schools have an average student / teacher ratio of 1:40, which makes it difficult to customize teachers for each student. Therefore, schools usually adopt a one-size-fits-all approach – standardizing explanations and grades for all students. Due to the large size of the classroom, teachers usually use a show-and-tell method to teach concepts. In such courses, students do not take an active part in the educational process. Thus, students leave school with theoretical knowledge gained from memory-based learning and very little knowledge that they can apply in an “outside the textbook” context.
The scenario in extracurricular activities is slightly different, because the size of the class is smaller, which allows the teacher to pay more attention. However, the main problems remain the same: the teacher demonstrates how to solve the sums and makes the homework and grades that are the same for students in all groups. But most mentors don’t have the tools or bandwidth to give students the individual practice they need to really improve on their weaknesses.
In recent years, e-learning applications have tried to fill this gap. These companies reduce the size of the problem and try to fix individual parts – one replaces video textbooks, the other focuses on resolving doubts – but none of them offer the student a full range of experiences and follow it to the end. It is the student’s duty to be active in learning, which is difficult when most students prefer to do anything other than study! Moreover, asynchronous applications lack human teacher-student interaction and peer learning. This student-teacher connection is essential for learning success, as teachers provide mentoring, coaching and questioning.
What was missing was a solution focused on providing students with both a textbook (also known as its content) and a tutor. Good learning outcomes are only achieved when you can control the whole process.

At Lido, we want every student to be in a perfect class every time. We do this by creating the best content in the classroom that matches the curriculum and delivering it in the most interactive and engaging format in the live classroom (such as animated videos, games, live tests!). And we do this in a small group format of six students so that students can ask questions, receive support, and build constructive relationships with their experienced Lido teachers.
